Devlog 03 – Back to Godot, new systems ahead

🧭 A small but important change

After a lot of thought, I decided to move Voidspace Survivors back to Godot.
And honestly — it feels like coming home again.

The workflow, the speed, the 2D tools — everything just fits this project better. Godot is free, open-source, lightweight, and lets me focus on what really matters: making the game fun to play.

💡 Why the switch makes sense

  • Free & open-source: no royalties, no limitations.
  • Lightweight: short build times, fast testing, smoother iteration.
  • 2D-focused: perfect for top-down gameplay and pixel-style visuals.
  • Scene/Node workflow: great structure for enemies, weapons, and waves.
  • Solo-dev friendly: GDScript keeps things fast, readable, and intuitive.

It’s not about comparing engines — it’s about choosing what helps me move forward faster.

🧩 Current progress

The core systems are back up and running:

  • ✅ Player movement
  • ✅ Dash system
  • ✅ HP & damage handling
  • ✅ First enemy (small hunter)

Everything already feels snappy, clean, and more stable than before. Rebuilding in Godot didn’t take long — it’s surprisingly efficient once you know what you want.

🔧 Next steps

Up next, I’ll be working on:

  • 🔸 Weapon systems — shooting mechanics, damage types & upgrade logic
  • 🔸 Enemy wave logic — timing, scaling & behavior patterns
  • 🔸 Enemy spawners — dynamic enemy formations and spawn control

Once those are in place, the core gameplay loop will be complete. That’s the moment where the game starts feeling “alive” — enemies, weapons, upgrades, waves. It’s going to be a big milestone.

💬 What’s next for the devlogs

As before, I’ll keep these updates short and focused on key progress. If you want to follow the step-by-step journey (or join playtests later), you can join the Zyragames Discord here:

Thanks for reading and for following the project!
Switching back to Godot should mean faster builds, smoother progress, and more frequent updates.
Stay tuned — next time we’ll dive into the first weapon prototypes 🔫
